October 13, 2005
October 13, 2005 This morning we rejoin our tour group and take the ferry back to Guangzhou. Our Canton guide gives us a quick city tour. We stop at the Chen Clan Ancestral Temple. This richly decorated structure now serves as an academy for the arts. From there we visit Yuexiu Park and see their famous Five-Ram Sculpture, the emblem of Canton. Our guide laments the destruction of much of China’s historical artifacts during Mao’s Cultural Revolution in the 70’s. She then escorts us to the airport and we fly to Hangzhou where we spend the night at a Best Western Hotel. Aimee thought sure this meant the end of our luxury accommodations. It turned out to be the newest and most luxurious.
