Today I took Aimee and her mother and drove south for a day trip to Colorado Springs. Our first stop is at the Air Force Academy. It is a large campus in a picturesque area. We stop and watch elk grazing on the lawn. The campus is deserted because of the holiday. We walk across the grounds, take a picture of their famous oft-photographed chapel, and then wander thru the academy Visitor Center. It has lots of interesting exhibits and a film on the life of a cadet.
Back in the car, we continue south to the Garden of the Gods. We stop at the Visitor Center for an orientation and then drive thru the park. The park is a strange wonderland of unique red rocks. Truly a garden fit for the gods. It is especially beautiful with the small amount of snow covering these sandstone formations. Before heading home we stop at the Broadmoor Hotel and walk thru the lobby. This historic resort for the upper crust has a wonderful view of the mountains from the lobby.
